Cycling Edinburgh's Old Railway Lines

The majority of Edinburgh's 20th century rail network eventually became foot and cycle paths, sometimes decades after the passenger service ceased on the line. I decided to cycle and film a few of these paths in North Edinburgh, including:

  • Hawthornvale

  • Ferry Road

  • Trinity

  • Chancelot

  • Goldenacre

  • Warriston

  • Water of Leith

This map shows the locations of each of these paths.

In the video below, I cycle past various old station infrastructure. You can learn more about many of these stations, and their associated railway lines, in this photo gallery.

Five Ways is the key junction where most of these paths meet, in the Bangholm area of North Edinburgh. Here's the sign showing where each path leads.
